Know Your Readers
Before starting to work on an essay you must be aware of who are going to be the readers. Who are you writing your essay for?

Purpose
You must know your purpose of writing an essay. You should know whether you are writing to inform people about a certain issue or to prove something through logical arguments based on facts and figures or to convince people into believing something.

Selecting a Topic
Make sure that you select an interesting topic. You should have sound knowledge over it and it can be searched on various sources. Take advice from your teacher about the availability of the sources. You must make sure that your topic is unique and different in order to create interest. If you choose something that nearly everyone is aware of than your essay just might not be as interesting for the masses.

Write an Attractive Introduction
Your introduction should be written in such a way that the reader is forced to read your essay further. The beginning is very important with the right selection of words and sentences. You can start with a question in the very beginning such as “What is the Purpose of Spirituality?” Such beginnings will make your reader curious and he or she will try to find out more about the topic.

Organizing the Ideas/Thought Mapping
Before starting you must jot down different ideas on a piece of paper and try to think when and where to use them in your essay. An organized list of ideas will make it easier to elaborate further in the essay.

Conciseness
Your essay should be concise and relevant. The sentences should be structured in a concise and clear way. You must not discuss two different things in a paragraph as it can confuse the readers and they may not be able to understand the point.

Include Conclusion at the End
While writing an essay you should always include your own point of views at the very end and if the essay requires you should also come up with certain tips and suggestions.

There are other various ways of making your essay more effective and interesting but the main thing is that you should be able to convey your real purpose through the essay in a convincing way.
